Now give yourself a pat on the back, because that’s exactly what we’ll be answering today. And I’ll make sure to explore the subject from every angle possible because your Demon Hunter can be a force to be reckoned with if you utilize the most optimal build.
Since Legion PvP season 6 and Antorus, the Burning Throne are still super fresh since they got released less than two weeks ago, so we’ll have a look at each side of the coin concerning the best DH build – both for PvP and PvE.
Firstly though, let me walk you through the two distinct Demon Hunter specialization trees.
What are Havoc and Vengeance and what’s the difference?
To put it in layman’s terms here’s the primary distinction between havoc DHs and vengeance DHs:
World Of Warcraft Demon Hunters
- Havoc – DPS
- Vengeance – Tanking
Civ v free download. Basically, Havoc is your best friend for PvP and when you try topping the damage charts in a raid environment. It allows for superb single-target burst damage, provides great mobility and all of this is combined with potent, versatile cooldowns for all kinds of situations.
But it’s not all roses since Havor can rely on critical strikes in order to fuel burst DPS, and that can be inconsistent. On top of that, your AoE is connected to cooldowns, which obviously disrupts the sustained damage.
Vengeance, on the other hand, is Demon Hunters who fancy tanking. This is the latest tanking specialization in WoW and it provides an intriguing combination of healing and damage reduction. The super high burst healing potential, in addition to the frequent mitigation of magic damage received, makes the DH a viable option for tanking.
All right, so now that you know the primary differences between these two specs, it’s time for the fascinating part of today’s post.
How about the best Demon Hunter builds for PvP and PvE?
Yep, yours truly will show you the most optimal talent builds for both PvP and PvE – because DHs are not only player-versus-player war machines, they can be just as awesome in raid encounters.
So without further, let’s kick off with the best DPS build.
Havoc – max PvE DPS talent build
- Level 99 – Fellblade
- Level 100 – Demon Blades
- Level 102 – Chaos Cleave
- Level 104 – Soul Rending
- Level 106 – Nemesis
- Level 108 – Demon Reborn
- Level 110 – Chaos Blades
What we have here is a pretty straightforward 2-2-1-3-3-1 Havoc build that focuses primarily on single-target DPS. Feel free to swap Chaos Blades for Fel Barrage if you require more AoE damage.
And guys, by all means – feel free to tweak it and adjust it as per your own needs. This build is meant as a starting point and it’s amazing because it’s easy to use and the gameplay style that it comes with is not overly complicated.
Of course, there are certain alternatives on this Havoc tree that may offer more in terms of overall performance of your DH, but it’ll also create room for mistakes if you are not seasoned in utilizing Demon Hunter PvE DPS.

And because I’m sure that you’ll find it useful, here’s Havoc stat priority related to this build:
- Critical Strike
- Haste
- Versatility
- Agility
- Mastery
Now, moving onto the more robust side of Demon Hunters now.
Vengeance – ‘easy mode’ Tank build
- Level 99 – Abyssal Strike
- Level 100 – Fallout
- Level 102 – Flame Crash
- Level 104 – Fracture
- Level 106 – Quickened Sigils
- Level 108 – Spirit Bomb
- Level 110 – Last Resort
This build is called ‘easy mode’ for a reason. The 1-2-2-2-3-3-1 talent distribution is about ideal, although you may ditch Abyssal Strike for Agonizing Flames for extra AoE damage, but at the expense of your mobility.
While there’s definitely room for improvement if you are an experienced DH player and/or someone who raids at a Mythic+ level, this talent build is undeniably very easy to digest and is ideal for new players or those with less experience playing as a Demon Hunter.

However, if you’re going to raid in Mythic+ difficulty, then this is what your secondary stat priority will look like:

- Mastery
- Haste
All right, time for the captivating PvP talent set up!

As with the other builds mentioned earlier, you can tweak this talent tree as much as you want. Make sure you familiarize yourself with every ability and what its pros and cons are so that you can optimize your PvP DPS output and survivability.
And since you can make use of the Honor talent tree in PvP scenarios, here’s a sample 1-2-1-2-1-2 Havoc Honor PvP build:
- Tier 1 – Gladiator’s Medallion
- Tier 2 – Reinforced Armor
- Tier 3 – Solitude
- Tier 4 – Reverse Magic
- Tier 5 – Demonic Origins
- Tier 6 – Detainment
Last but not least, I want to make an important statement, as a little bonus for you.
You can only choose to play Demon Hunter as an Elf
Wow Demon Hunter
I just had to do it. So many people find this confusing so I wanted to help you guys, really. No, you can’t be a Dwarf or Forsaken DH, only one of the two Elf factions: Night Elves for the Alliance and Blood Elves for the Horde – as simple as that.
Conclusion
I hope that you feel more confident about playing as a DH after reading this WoW Demon Hunter Build post. Although as some people in the battle.net forums state – with the right legendaries, any build will do quite a decent amount of DPS.
